Hey Gnars-folk, rocketman here.
I'm bringing this proposal to you all in the hopes that we can work together to bring the magic of That's Gnarly onchain. Now that Gnars is on Base - this should be an cleaner transition.
Our goal is to upgrade Daily Drops to be a permissionless onchain mechanism to give shredders a fun place to engage in Gnars in a way that earns revenue for themselves and the treasury.
We proved out this vision in 2023. That's Gnarly became the community media home of Gnars DAO. That's Gnarly helped the Gnars community earn over 10 ETH, split between shredders and the Gnars DAO treasury. TG saw over 8k MAUs on the platform at it's peak, with stories (15+), creations (2,500+ uploaded), drops (200+), shop items like Gnarsauce all sold through the platform. TG onboarded skateboard legends like Stevie Williams, and seen content uploaded from across the globe.
We want to take all this grass-roots gnarly activity onchain to empower the community to permissionlessly build and onboard shredders.
We previously ran Daily Drops in a manner that required manual intervention from a trusted party (rocketman, Davin, and xargs). We saw tons of shredders onboarded and over 10 ETH earned for the treasury through the daily drops mechanic. We'd like to bring this mechanism onchain, and make it permissionless, just like the Gnars daily auctions.
Gnars holders will be able to vote for the top pieces of content uploaded to That's Gnarly, fully onchain on Base
Create a wrapper contract on top of Zora ERC1155 contracts, owned by Gnars DAO, to drop the top content every day to a new That's Gnarly NFT collection, every day, forever.
The Daily Drop Zora contract will be a free mint, with a duration of 7 days, and a new daily drop can be created every 24 hours. These parameters can be updated by the DAO.
Other plans
Bring all past and future creations fully onchain to ensure maximum composability and to enable developers to build on TG.
Bring back shredder profile pages to highlight all uploaded content.
Open source frontend + contracts. The plan for the codebase is that it will be available open source after we finalize some company winding down, this should be done by the end of the month.
The plan is to hand over full control to Gnars DAO. The repo will be owned by Gnars' Github, database can be transferred and set up by member(s) of the tech pod, Gnars DAO will own the contracts, and Vlad or another trusted community member can own the That's Gnarly domain.
We will remain available to work on it if any issues come up, and plan to stay engaged and continue working on making That's Gnarly the home for Gnars DAO with subsequent proposals and work.
We estimate it will take 5-7 days to build the contract, and another 4-5 days to update the UI of That's Gnarly to support the Zora open edition minting and onchain interactions.
Our team consists of two developers now, rocketman and @wkocjan.
