The whole DAO (auction house, governor, treasury, droposals, swap, staking) runs on Base. Every vote, every mint, every swap fee is a transaction you can pull straight off a block explorer. This is that stack, documented with real numbers.

Base From the First Block

Gnars describes its own infrastructure as running on chain ID 8453, end to end, since day one. Not a later migration from another chain, but the project's native foundation. That's the only verifiable version available from the sources reviewed. (We didn't have access to an earlier deployment history or a documented migration date. If that timeline exists, it belongs in a future update to this piece, not invented here.)

What is verifiable is the current state. The auction house, the Nouns Builder governor, the treasury, droposals, swap and staking are all deployed and executing on Base right now. Nothing is bridged in from elsewhere to fake it.

Why Base?

Base is an Ethereum L2 built on the OP Stack: Ethereum equivalent execution, a fraction of L1 gas costs, chain ID 8453. That's basically the whole technical story that matters here.

What it buys Gnars specifically:

  • Sponsored gas. Smart accounts by default, so a member's first vote or bid costs them nothing.

  • Farcaster mini app integration. Auction and stake flows run inside the feed, not a separate tab.

  • Social and email login next to wallets. Built for skaters first, crypto natives second.

  • Mobile first execution. Bidding, voting, staking and swapping all work on a phone.

None of that is technically exclusive to Base. In practice, it's what Gnars actually ships.

Gnars, Onchain

Numbers pulled directly from Gnars' live Base page and the gnars.com/stake product data. No projections, no estimates.

  • 2,016 Daily auctions already settled on Base. Each one funds the treasury and mints a membership, Nouns style.

  • 77 Governance proposals executed, paying riders in 9 countries. Real payouts, all onchain.

  • 15.50 to 16 ETH Total raised through the daily auction. Campaign data (a test phase snapshot) records 15.50 ETH; the live page, at the time of this check, already showed roughly 16 ETH. The gap is just the clock moving between auctions, not a conflict between sources.

  • 15 Skateable sculptures (NogglesRails) installed worldwide off that treasury, plus ambassador sponsorships and shredder network infrastructure.

  • 0.5% Affiliate fee on every swap executed through Gnars' own swap page (routed via 0x across 150+ Base DEXs), sent straight to the treasury.

We didn't have a confirmed total for unique wallets across the whole DAO, only the number specific to the Stake product, detailed below. What wasn't documented in the sources doesn't appear here.

Governance Goes Onchain

Gnars isn't a Discord server with a PFP collection attached. A proposal goes through the Nouns Builder governor, gets voted on by token holders, queues through a timelock, and executes against a treasury the timelock itself controls. No multisig behind it, no "trust the mods."

Two real examples from the current proposal queue:

  • Proposal #126, "Sponsor Gnar World." Defeated. 519 for, 0 against, 47 abstain.

  • Proposal #125, "sponsor Gnar World." Defeated. 206 for, 130 against, 294 abstain.

Same proposal, resubmitted, a different vote composition each time. That's what active governance looks like when it isn't theater. People show up, split their votes, and kill what doesn't convince them.

Building on Base

The clearest evidence isn't the infrastructure. It's what's actually shipped through it. Droposals are governance executed NFT drops with revenue splits enforced by 0xSplits contracts onchain, not a promise in a document.

Recent drops that went through the full propose, vote, execute cycle:

  • #110, Gnargentina (January 3, 2026). 0.005 ETH, documenting the tour during Devconnect in Buenos Aires.

  • #100, Surf is Up: Nogglesboard (September 29, 2025). 0.0025 ETH, a Costa Rica surf session with a 50/50 split between rider and treasury built into the contract.

  • #98, ska7e & jazz (September 3, 2025). 0.0035 ETH, a skate video premiere with a live band and cash for tricks at Argentina's first Noggles obstacle.

  • #93, Gnars is BASED (July 15, 2025). The drop this piece is named after. More on that below.

The Stake Case Study: Sponsorship Without Giving Money Away

If one product sums up "Gnars builds on Base" with real numbers, it's gnars.com/stake, launched under the category Lending / Yield, built on Morpho V2 + 0xSplits.

How it works. Every rider gets their own vault on Base, a Morpho V2 vault curated into Moonwell. A backer deposits USDC (two transactions: approve, deposit). No lock, no vesting. The principal stays the backer's own money, withdrawable any time. What the backer gives up is half of the yield.

The split is the product. Of that yield, 50% stays with the backer, 25% goes to the rider, and 25% goes to the Gnars treasury. That isn't a backend promise. It's the vault's performance fee pointed at a 0xSplits contract on Base. Anyone can trigger the distribution, and nobody, including Gnars itself, can redirect it.

Test phase numbers (three weeks in, from campaign data):

  • 6 all time backers

  • $164.21 in USDC staked behind riders

  • 7 riders, 7 vaults, all live right now

  • Combined monetization: 50% vault performance fee (split DAO/athlete) plus 0.5% swap affiliate fee plus auction proceeds

Core contract on Base: 0xF3f8F84E6891A7881956a2495DaBFF480EE2d4D2, with supporting token at 0x880f...0c17 and treasury at 0x72ad...6f88.

Small numbers, on purpose. The point of this phase was to prove the mechanism end to end (deposit, yield, fee, split, payout, withdrawal) before anyone put real size behind it. The campaign material is also direct about the bottleneck: capital isn't the problem, product isn't the problem. The stated challenge is distribution. Stake already ships as a Farcaster mini app, and the bet is that each rider becomes a channel, bringing their own audience to their own vault.

The Gnars Approach to Base

Gnars doesn't treat Base as an ideology. It treats it as plumbing. Cheap enough that voting doesn't need a barrier, fast enough that a droposal can go from proposal to minted edition without the process becoming the story, and social and mobile enough that the people funding it are skaters and surfers, not just wallets. The culture stays community run; the governor has no opinion on a skate video. The chain just makes sure the money moves when the vote says it should.

The Base Droposal

Droposal #93, simply titled "Gnars is BASED," is the DAO's own victory lap. It commemorates the first Nogglesrail, a monument by artist Pharra in Praça XV, a historic square in Brazil, repainted in Base blue. It's an open edition mint (symbol $GNARBSD), 0.0035 ETH, 50% royalty, live from July 23, 2025 through July 23, 2026, with revenue routed on Base to the treasury and creators through the same split logic as every other drop.

The core stack already runs end to end: auctions, governance, treasury, droposals, swap. Stake is the newest piece, still in test phase, with small numbers and a clear problem to solve: distribution, not product. Gnars' bet is to use its own riders as the channel, each one bringing an audience to their own vault, instead of fighting for generic attention on Base.

As the team behind the product puts it: "we're not short on capital, and we're not short on product. We're short on distribution."

Gnars is BASED. And it's still building.
